Title: Atlas of the British Isles
Author: Pieter Van Den Keere
First Published: 1605
ISBN: 0 903541 00 9
Description: This very rare atlas was probably published at Amsterdam between 1605 and 1610. As such it is the earliest printed atlas of the British Isles. It is thought to exist only in proof form, which explains the absence of a title page and a map of Yorkshire. The Atlas contains 44 maps: 33 of the English and Welsh Counties, 6 of Scotland and 5 of Ireland. The scale of each map varies as the image size for each is constant at 4.75" x 3.75" and thus each individual map has been scaled to fit. This reproduction is fortunate in having an introduction very kindly prepared by Dr Helen Wallis, Superintendent of the Map Room in the British Museum.
Pages: 96 pages
Size: 5.9" x 8.2"
Scale: Varies
Status: Out of print
